During Bruno’s promotion in The Philipines, he did an interview with Phil Star – where he spoke about everything from his upbringing to the new album and a lot more. Here is an excerpt from the great chat as well as a few pictures. Check them out Hooligans!
Tell me the background of Just The Way You Are.
“Hmmmm…the inspiration of that song…You know, I have four sisters, I’m the middle child, and I tell you, everybody is insecure, even the most beautiful woman in the world is insecure about something. I remember watching a girlfriend get ready to go out to dinner and I could see all the works she put in just to make herself feel beautiful and sexy when she already thought she looked great with what she was wearing. And, you know, the song is telling her that ‘I love you already. You look beautiful just the way you are’.”Did you have a particular girl when you wrote the song?
“I think it’s from, you know, just dealing with a bunch of different women in my life…” Oh, a bunch of women? That’s a lot!
(Blushing and laughing) “Hmmmm, you know. I just told you that I have four sisters.”How was it growing up with four sisters? Were you spoiled by your sisters?
“Well, it’s different, you know. It’s great! I love my sisters.”Do you feel protective towards your sisters?
“Definitely! Not just protective; I’m over-protective. You can’t help feeling that way because you have to deal with new boyfriends and stuff like that. That’s the hard part about being an only brother.”From whom do you draw inspiration for your songs?
“Ahhh, you know, it’s a different story every time. As a songwriter, you have to be a storyteller. When you write a story, you know, how do you make it interesting? So I find my inspiration from things that have been through my life, where I’m going, where I wanna be — you know, to be a billionaire. Hmmmm, that would be my ‘wish’ record. One day, I don’t want to worry about money and be able to take care of the ones I love, just the way you are, dealing with heartbreak and things like that.”Your looks are very Filipino. What else is Filipino about you…your upbringing maybe?
“My mom is from Manila. I grew up with my mom’s side, a big Filipino family. So I grew up on Filipino food.”Wanna read the rest of the interview? Check out PhilStar.com
