In an interview with MTV recently, Bruno talked about his excitement for being nominated for the VMAs. He says it is the ‘big-boy award’ to be nominated for Video Of The Year.
Bruno Mars’ emotional clip for “Grenade” is one of the big nominees at the 2011 Video Music Awards.
Not only is “Grenade” up for prizes like Best Male Video and Best Pop Video, but the video is also a contender for the night’s ultimate get: Video of the Year. Mars will face off against Katy Perry (“Firework”), Adele (“Rolling in the Deep”), Tyler the Creator (“Yonkers”) and the Beastie Boys (“Make Some Noise”) on Sunday, August 28.
“I grew up watching VMAs. I know every performance,” Mars told MTV News recently. “Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been watching MTV VMAs, and when we got the phone call saying that my video was up for Video of the Year, that’s the big-boy award.”
The accolades mean even more to Mars because he personally dreamed up the idea for the video. “It was my concept,” the singer said. “I said, ‘I want to drag a piano.’ I got my friend, [the video director] Nabil [Elderkin] to come direct it, and it was a risk ’cause I still hear jokes to this day like, ‘What the hell you doing dragging a piano?’ ” he quipped. “But it’s my art, so shut up!”
In addition to competing for Moonmen for that “Grenade” video, Mars is also battling it out for Best Choreography for his less-angsty “The Lazy Song.”
“You know what I’m excited for? As much as I put blood, sweat and tears into ‘Grenade,’ I’m excited for ‘The Lazy Song,’ Best Choreography,” he dished to us. “That is amazing … and I think that would be the coolest thing ever if I went home and saw a Moonman that said: ‘Best Choreography, Bruno Mars, ‘The Lazy Song.’ ”
The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT. See the list of nominees, revisit last year’s highlights and vote for your favorites in the general categories by visiting VMA.MTV.com.

Bruno will be featured on an upcoming episode of the kids TV show Sesame Street. Bruno will join others like Nicole Kidman, George Lopez and many more in August for the brand new season.
Bruno Mars has landed a spot on the upcoming series of Sesame Street.
The 25-year-old musician has penned tracks for many well-known artists, including Travie McCoy, Cee Lo Green and Flo Rida. He’s now enjoying success in his own right after releasing his debut album Doo-Wops & Hooligans last year.
The singer has been booked on the iconic children’s show alongside a host of stars including Nicole Kidman, Seth Rogen and George Lopez.
The American star reached a deal with prosecutors to pay a $2000 fine, serve 200 hours of community service and undergo drug abuse counselling after being caught in possession of the class A substance.
Bruno is one of more than three dozen celebrities who are lined up to appear on Sesame Street this series, with the 42nd season beginning in the US on September 26.
It will focus on science, maths and engineering education, and will see the orange monster Murray conduct science experiments in a regular feature.

During a recent interview with MTV News, Bruno spoke on his dreams of winning a MTV Video Music Award (particularly for “Best Choreography” for his music video ‘The Lazy Song’). Check out all he had to say about the nomination below.
Bruno Mars’ heartfelt clip for “Grenade” is up for three Moonmen at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards: Video of the Year, Best Male Video and Best Pop Video. He’s obviously very excited by these three nods, but it’s his fourth that really gets “The Lazy Song” singer going.
“You know what I’m excited for? As much as I put blood, sweat and tears into ‘Grenade,’ I’m excited for ‘The Lazy Song,’ Best Choreography,” he dished to MTV News. “That is amazing.”
In the video, Bruno is captured hanging out at home, dancing around his living room and monkeying around with a few, well, monkeys. “I called up my friends the Poreotics [from 'America's Best Dance Crew'] and we shot this and choreographed this in one day,” he recalled of the fun video. “And I think that would be the coolest thing ever if I went home and saw a Moonman that said: Best Choreography, Bruno Mars, ‘The Lazy Song.’ ”
As silly and ironic as it seems for the singer to win the award for that track, he did put a lot of the same “blood, sweat and tears” into it as he did for “Grenade.” “We worked really hard on it, and we wanted to give people something to laugh at and show personality in the song and what we’re talking about,” he said. ” ‘The Lazy Song’ is not necessarily the song you want to hear in the club, but we put our monkey dance to it.”

Eminem, Royce Da 5’9″ ‘Lighters’ Video Coming ‘Very Soon’
Bruno Mars calls clip for Bad Meets Evil single ‘very beautiful.’
By Jocelyn Vena (@jocelyn1212)Bruno Mars was enlisted by Eminem and Royce Da 5’9″ for their Bad Meets Evil Hell: The Sequel track “Lighters”. The sweeping, inspirational track mixes Em’s penchant for spitting fire, Royce’s keen pop-culture eye and Bruno’s smooth pop sensibility.
The trio was spotted shooting the song’s video at the tail-end of July. When MTV News caught up with VMA nominee Mars this week, he shared that the Rich Lee-directed clip will certainly leave fans as inspired as the song does. “We shot the video … that should be coming out very, very soon,” he said. “But that’s their baby, so I’m not going to blow the lid.”
Instead of revealing any actual video details, Mars decided to show off his comedic side about what he is doing in the video. “I’m doing handstands, and I’m juggling naked,” he joked, laughing. “No, I’m not doing all that, but I am naked.”
Fans will have to wait to see if that promise is true (we’re guessing it’s not), and it seems that Mars will too, since he has yet to see the video. “It’s a very beautiful [video]. I haven’t even seen it yet, but I think it’s going to be beautiful,” he said.
Bruno certainly has racked up quite the pedigree over the past two years to appear on such a high-profile track, and he joked about how the project came his way: “It was a freestyle battle. I said, ‘Yo Em, if I beat you, you’re gonna have to do a song with me.’ I shut him down right then and there.”
The song has Bruno wondering who he wants to work with next, including a man who famously declared “F— You.” “I would love to get back into the studio with Cee Lo [Green]. I’d love to work with Lil Wayne. There’s so many people out there,” he said. “I’m so proud of this Eminem song with Royce Da 5’9″. I’m happy with the way that’s going, but this is just the very beginning. There’s a lot more to come.”
